Cloudiness Parameterization for Use in Atmospheric Models: A Review and New Perspectives

In atmospheric models, the representation of cloudiness is a direct linkage between moisture amount and associated radiative forcing. This paper begins by providing review parameterization that has been used for numerical weather predictions climate studies. The inherent uncertainties in representing partial fraction clouds radiation feedback evaluating it against corresponding observations are focused. It also stated major hydrometeor categories water substances such as cloud ice responsible cover readily available modern models. Inconsistencies hydrometeors, even case prognostic method, discussed. compensating effect found to imply condensed itself more influential on forcing, rather than accuracy cloudiness. Based above perspectives, an alternative diagnostic method proposed, utilizing monotonic relation amounts obtained from aircraft satellite observations. basic premise this approach lies substance indicating future efforts need be given improvements physical processes concerning properties accurate feedback.
